A library catalogue is the mirror of the library . It is the list of documents of that particular library . It is said that a library without catalogue is like a country without a map. Library catalogue shows the books on particular subjects and by particular authors. By library catalogue a reader can also get information about different titles written by an author.
In the library each book is catalogued based on certain standard rules called catalogue codes, which means a set of rules for cataloguing purpose. There are different catalogue codes, such as
‘A.A.Code’,cutter rules for dictionary catalogue,
‘ALA rules' for author and titles entries , Anglo –American cataloguing rules (1st ed.),
‘AACR-2’ ,
Ranganathan’s classified catalogue code with additional rules for dictionary catalogue code etc.
In addition , the library provides different types of services to the readers . First of all, for fresh readers . For fresh readers library provides orientation services in which the readers are introduced about the organization and management of the knowledge resources . They also get the copy of library rules and the brochure containing library features. The librarian tries his best that the library clients should get familiar with library functions and services.
